  • This was one of the best books I have read in months. it was full of action right from the very beginning until the very end. A fast and furious plot that involved the search for the Romanov jewels, stolen nuclear bombs, espionage, and romance. I felt it could rival the best and most famous authors of action/adventure, spy thrillers...Lynne.

Fast-paced adventure
By Mike Billington
Richard Turner's "Goliath" is a fast-paced adventure novel that echoes some of Clive Cussler's books. It, like Cussler's books, has the same global reach though his characters don't rely on quite as many gadgets. Both authors, however, have intriguing heroes, villainous villains and plots that are just a shade away from tomorrow's headlines. In "Goliath" we have an oil baron seeking immense power and though that's certainly not unusual - especially these days - his plan for obtaining that power is, while a little far-fetched, certainly within the realm of possibility. I won't spoil the story by telling you what it is but suffice it to say it helps give Turner's book an edgy feel.
Like Cussler and other writers in this genre, Turner's heroes are just short of superhuman. That is to say they can sustain a few broken bones and the occasional gunshot wound yet still manage to carry out their missions. That doesn't trouble me: If you pick up a book in this genre you expect the heroes to be, well, heroic in that classical sense and his are that. Like ancient Greek heroes - not to mention modern cinematic ones - they must undergo severe challenges that would flatten ordinary people and still come out on top. That, after all, is what makes them heroes.
If I have a criticism it's the number of typos that appear throughout the book and the occasional misuse of words. In one instance, for example, one of the characters tells another that a bomb could not be "diffused." What the character meant, of course, is that the bomb could not be "defused." The fast pace of the narrative, however, allowed me to forgive most of these problems.
Looking for a book to ease the pain of another seemingly endless flight or a long layover in a busy airport? I'd recommend "Goliath" as a good way to pass the time.

Military Adventure Starting with the Lost of a British Airship
By K. Springs
It begins in the summer of 1931 with the loss of the British Airship Goliath on her maiden voyage. Fast forward to the present day and a team of ruthless mercenaries attempt to kidnap historian Jennifer March from her dig site in the Philippines. Rescued by Ryan Mitchell, a former US Army Ranger, and currently working for a security firm, the mystery draws them from the Philippines, to North Caroline, to Alaska, Africa, and a rocky Island off of Iceland. They must try to head off a group of ruthless people that intends to use deadly means to change the world.

Richard Turner's novel is a action adventure with a mystery of what happened to the British Airship Goliath. The action was almost non stop and the book was hard to put down. The reader immediately connects to the main characters of Jennifer March and Ryan Mitchell. Dialogue was believable. All around an exciting read.

Maybe I'm just spoiled by Tom Clancy.

Interesting concept, off to a good start....Then fell apart fast. The first chase scene has our hero crashing his Land Rover into a Humvee as he "puts a 30 round magazine into his M-4 ( shouldn't he have been locked and loaded already) and shoots at the tires...Uhhuuuuu,"run flats" on Humvees, causing a slow air leak. Somehow the Land Rover then turned into a Jeep and the HumVee into a Hummer (civilian version). Or maybe there are 4 vehicles and the drivers just teleport between them....I'm sooooo confused. Anyway,he destroys the engine block of something with some well-placed shots from the machine gun mounted on his Jeep aka Land Rover and crashes a drone into one of the vehicles, thus rescuing the heroine. Ill spare you the details but she forgets all about her friend and several co-workers that had just been brutally murdered by her kidnappers and notices her hero's "intense blue-green eyes, trim athletic build,yada,yada......rugged confidant air about him that women liked,so forth and so on.....Realized she was staring etc, etc. I gave up at page 25 of 293. Authors....Details and editing....Please!!!!!!
