Hallelujah! It's About Time.

Resurrecting TV News is a must read from one of the industry's top television reporters. The content addressed in this book is long overdue. This book is relevant for all news professionals, especially news directors as television news looks to stay relevant in the digital era. This book takes a hard look at the future of television news and more importantly, the future of journalism. It takes guts for Nick Winkler to write this book as it is a critique on the industry he so clearly loves; but the "Letter to TV News" is honest, real, and brilliant!

Wow! The insight of somebody who truly gets the "it" of local television news. Read this and be the better for it. Excellent!

Pie in the Sky

Read the entire book. It was quite frankly, disappointing. Winkler writes in condescending, holier than thou tone. None of the advice in this book is practical. For example: Mr. Winkler suggests reinventing the wheel , by establishing a content exchange system-- rather than selling ads, Winkler suggests stations set up a stock market like system where clients "bid" on individual stories . The value of those stories (the cost to the client) goes up by the minute as the stories obtain a larger interest and reach. Not practical. That wouldn't be mixing sales and news at all! The advice in this book would be like going to a city council meeting and telling the council "the solution to traffic congestion is cars that can fly". I bought this book because I thought the intro was very clever and promising. Virtually nothing in this book was helpful. $19.95 is no big deal-- I'd rather have the time back that I invested .
